Hello, I’m Erlend 👋

I’m an Associate Professor in Computer Science at HVL, where I work at the intersection of mathematics, algorithms, and education. My background is in computational topology and parameterized complexity—think NP-hard problems, but with Moebus strips and Klein bottles.

Just me, but on a boat.

These days, my work spans a few domains: algorithms for robotics, topological data analysis, and—somewhat unexpectedly—pedagogy. I'm especially interested in how we teach for autonomy, collaboration, and critical thinking—core ideas in democratic education.

Two approaches to teaching, research, and life. Choose wisely.

This site collects the things I think about, build, and sometimes get wrong. You’ll find my research on complexity and topology, my approach to teaching (including waffles), and my essays on democratic learning. If any of it sparks something, feel free to reach out.
